It’s a mean world out there. Guns and racism and stereotypes, injustice and poverty and mixed up dehumanizing interests. But one has to believe it’s a mean world with moments of incorruptible beauty. Those moments come to us through human partnerships – the way we read a mood, a spirit, in someone’s eyes. The way our heart reacts when we see someone move gracefully through space. But mostly, the way we ignite when we see two great forces come together in a partnership so very much greater than the sum of its parts.
Collaboration is hard. Creative collaboration is harder. But the pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth, the departures due to “creative differences,” they’re worth it. For those moments of incorruptible beauty we need so very much.
