Meet: Papirmasse

Forget an apple a day – a print a month is the way to good health! Canadian company Papirmasse will mail you 12 prints a year, for $5 a month. Each edition features new artists, with art on the front and text on the back.

The format changes every month – one of my favorites was a set of postcards they sent out over the summer. Papirmasse started in 2008 with Montreal artist and illustrator Kirsten McCrea at the helm. Kirsten was inspired by the affordable art collection at a restaurant and made it her mission to make original artwork accessible to the young and, well, broke. For $5 a month, how could you go wrong? The mailings give you a bit of info about each artist – if that’s not enough? The website has artist and writer interviews too.

Here’s a look at some of the artists featured in 2011. For more on each, click here!

Issue 17 - David Orfé

Issue 19 - Chloe Beaulac

Issue 13 - Jeff Kulak

Issue 24 - Victoria Wiercinski

Check out tinyshowcase.com – a similar concept where a percentage of the money from each print sold is donated to a charity chosen by the artist.
