In Praise of: Long Black Train

Long Black Train

Basic Idea: Josh Turner’s phenomenal baritone will make you trade your ironic fedora for a Stetson and two-step on over to the local Honky Tonk.  Turner has graced the Billboard country singles charts 10 times, with all but one of his singles hitting the Top 40 (or higher).  His debut album, Long Black Train (MCA Nashville Records 2003), remains a solid favorite.

Track list:

1. Long Black Train – his first breakout hit.  The world’s first real taste of that remarkably smooth, holy-hell-that’s-masculine baritone.
2. In My Dreams
3. What it Ain’t
4. I Had One One Time
5. Jacksonville
6. Backwoods Boy – a classic kick up your heels and knock back a cold one anthem for the glories of rural America – sod off, Manhattan!
7. Unburn All Our Bridges
8. You Don’t Mess Around With Jim  – “You don’t pull the mask off the ol’ Lone Ranger, and you don’t mess around with Jim.
9. She’ll Go On You – “Be a dragon or a dinosaur, every change you get.”
10. Good Woman Bad
11. The Difference Between a Woman and a Man

The Best Part: In his dreams, your dreams come true.  Go buy this album now.
