Thanks again, Louis XIV

Versailles: the Palace that keeps on giving.  Robert Polidori spent 25 years photographing the gradual conservation of the Palace.  35 large-scale prints of his head-tiltingly meta shots are now showing at Galleria Carla Sozzani.

And thanks to Polidori, bits of Versailles found their way to the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park Lincoln Center on Friday.  Jason Wu described his Autumn/Winter 2011-12 collection as “Baroque meets Sportswear.”   Inspired by Polidori’s works, Wu’s collection dripped of textured luxury and hyperbolic indulgence – complete with a chandelier in a shipping crate as backdrop.  Fifteen different types of lace, hundreds of crystals, and a whole lot of feathers: very Versailles, indeed.
